Golden Tulip de Medici Hotel
The hotel is located in the heart of Brugge, along the Reiein canal. It is 700 metres from the central Market Square. Shopping streets and tourist attractions are close by.

Golden Tulip de Medici Hotel
The hotel is housed in a traditional building with a very modern glass door at the entrance. The lobby is small but very smart, with a marble floor and black and white leather seats. Walking past the lobby one gets to the bar/lounge area, which is very large and comfortable. In addition there is a grand piano and this overlooks the Japanese garden. The bedrooms are large with a fairly masculine feel to them. However, they are all in good condition as are the bathrooms. The hotel has an excellent Japanese restaurant which is very reputable. It is located on the ground floor, next to the lobby. There is no other restaurant, although if required, it can be arranged for groups to take meals in the conference room.

This hotel failed to live up to its 4* rating; no tea/coffee facilities in the room, limited tea/coffee service during the afternoon only in the bar area. A Non smoking room seems to be unavailable, unless of course you like to passive smoke, our room stunk of cigarettes and spoiled our stay. The cost of per day secure parking is high, and not explained until you arrive, beware..... Short walk to the central market square, but walk beyond the square to see the local sites.
Top Tip
Resturants are better off the beaten track and offer more choice without the hassle. If you like churches, go to Brugge

A well appointed hotel with a pleasant bar, Japanese garden and two restaurants.
The rooms lacked tea/coffee facilities but were otherwise well equipped and comfortable.
Good parking arrangements. A quiet location about 15-20 minutes walk from all the restaurants and shops in the centre.
Top Tip
Some of the restaurants are expensive, so choose carefully and don't necessarily be drawn to the ones on the square. The ones in the side streets are just as good and often cheaper.
Take a walk/drive to the east side of the old town (by the ring road) and see the windmills.

The person on reception was not able to locate our reservation and seemed a bit indifferent to the whole process, but luckily we took all the necessary correspondence with us, so this was sorted out.
We tried to book a table in the Japanese restaurant only to be told by the person on reception that the Restaurant was fully booked. As I didn’t really trust the answer I was given, I went outside looked up the telephone number of the Restaurant and then phoned the restaurant directly. The guy who answered the phone took our reservation and even asked what time we wanted the table for suggesting that the restaurant was not fully booked as we were previously informed!
I have a long association with hotels and the hospitality industry so I understand that mistakes can happen and not everything goes to plan. However it does not help if the staff appear outwardly unfriendly and difficult to deal with. Other then the Receptionist who checked us in everyone else at the hotel were great, especially the guy who served in the Japanese restaurant and later the same evening in the lounge bar.
The room was great with a good view over the canal.
