Make sure you ask to stay in the older part of the hotel if you want period character

It's worth having a wander away from the central sights to really relax and get a sense of the city.

Fabulous little hotel in a quiet part of Brugge, but only a short walk form the main square and restaurants. The staff were friendly and always able to help, making you feel really welcome. Would stay there again!

Worth checking out the WW1 battlefields. We toured with Quasimodo Tours and they were great!

The Azalea is an extremely friendly cosy small hotel where you expect not to have many facilities hence the average points awarded. This is replaced by wonderful helpful staff and great breakfasts.

-Hotel is an easy 20 min. walk from the train station.
-Very quiet location even though you are nearly in the heart of the city.
-Staff seem intent on making sure you have a pleasant stay. After our first night in a small-ish, rather shabby room we were surprised to be upgraded (at no charge) to an available superior room overlooking the canal.
-Tiny soap bars were a little skimpy but toiletries, towels and tea & coffee supplies were replenished daily. -Shower cap provided. Hot water plentiful.
-You need to be able to climb the spiral staircase to get to the superior rooms. It appears that the lift only services the standard rooms.
-Staff were friendly and helpful. Very willing to look up timetables for trains and buses on the internet or make phone calls to get information. Everyone seems to be fluent in at least 4 languages, including French, English and Dutch/Flemish.
-Excellent hot & cold breakfast buffet in a relaxed & peaceful dining room.
-Care has been taken in furnishings and decor to retain the era of the building.
-You can leave your bags at the hotel after check-out until it is time for your departure.

A great city to visit if you don't want to be bothered driving anywhere. We stayed for 3 days and were very happy just walking and meandering around the quiet streets enjoying the picturesque architecture. We liked seeing the Michaelangelo Madonna & Child sculpture in the Church of Our Lady, and St.Jacobs Church was worth a visit. If you want to shop bring lots of money! Restaurant prices were on the high side, but food was good. Coffee & tea are charged by the cup. There is no option for tap water, you must pay for bottled.
If you are sending postcards buy your stamps from hotel reception: the central post office in the main market square was painfully slow.
Be aware of the bicycle lanes where not only pedal bikes but also motorized scooters will come suddenly zooming along. There are even separate traffic light crossings for bikes and pedestrians so don't use the wrong one or you risk being mown down.

Good breakfast.
Room 22 has cramped bathroom.

Book parking space at the hotel. The De Vier Winden restaurant in main square is good. The staff were fun and the 'special menu' is good quality & value
