I was a bit sceptical at first not booking directly through the hotel but there were no problems and the value was fantastic.

The hotel is a bit out of the main touristy part of Bruges but not far...perhaps a 10 minute walk to the Market and still in a very beautiful and safe area. It was the perfect retreat from the bustle of the city center. Very clean and modern facilities with marble bathrooms, hair dryer, lux toiletries and an indoor pool/fitness center. Free full breakfast buffet and late check out (5pm) on Sundays.

1. The Hotel is no longer called the Sofitel since Nov 2007.
2. When we arrived there seemed to be no knowledge of our booking although we were quickly accomodated.

Excellent restaurant nearby - Dickie's Grillhouse - not many covers, need to book. Try the mixed fish grill - awesome.

Suitably close to the main shopping / nightlife areas but far enough away so no disturbances.

Very enjoyable stay. The food in the restaurant was amazing and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I would come back again.

Expect to put on a few pounds when in Bruges. The amazing chocolate shops are hard to resist, not to mention the many cafe's that sell pancakes and waffles with lots of cream. You must sit in one of the many restaurants in the market square and try some of the wide variety of beers they have to offer. To burn off some of the calories try taking a walk up to the top of the Belfry where you will be able to see the whole of Bruges. Also take a trip on the canal. There are also many shops to buy gifts and clothes. A recommendation i would make would be to wear flat shoes as all the roads are cobbled and keep you eyes peeled as the bicycles seem to have right of way over everyone. Enjoy!
